A teenager’s birthday ended on an all-time low when he became the victim of a hijacking at the end of his celebration night.
On Friday, March 11, just after 8pm, three suspects were arrested in Birch Acres after hijacking a blue Hyundai i20 from the birthday boy (19) and his female companion.
The car was found by Alpha Security reaction officer, Edrick Brummer (50), along with Tembisa SAPS officers near Piet-my-vrou Street after being hijacked at the corner of Geranium Avenue and Wingerd Street.
According to Brummer, the three suspects were dropped off by a man driving a black BMW, who then drove off.
“I was patrolling around the area when I suddenly saw a group of people running around and causing a commotion on Wingerd Street. I made a u-turn and went to investigate,” explained Brummer.
The teenager told Brummer he was driving with a female companion and after parking, he got out of the car to open the gate. That was when a firearm was pointed at him.
“I told the teenager if they had a tracker they should contact the tracking company. When I saw that it was taking too long for the tracking company to arrive, I decided to go and look for the car because I knew it wasn’t far yet,” added Brummer.
“As I was driving I came across Tembisa SAPS and stopped them and asked them to assist. That’s how we managed to corner the suspects. I went in the one direction and they in the other.”
When the suspects noticed that Alpha Security was coming from one side and the police from the other, they started turning into different streets but couldn’t find their way out of Birch Acres. When they saw they were cornered, they all jumped out of the vehicle and started running but Alpha Security with the help of Tembisa SAPS managed to bring them to book.
Alpha Security management praised the work done by the police and their reaction officer.
“Well done Brummer. Well done to all the police officers. You are the heroes that make us feel safe,” said Morné le Grange, Alpha Security’s general manager.

14 March 2016 20H30, Gideo Leriba went to do a routine check at avion park golf club, upon arrival a unknown male stopped him and pointed him with a firearm, Gideon managed to escape before the suspect fired a shot at him. Gideon managed to return fire, fortunately Gideon was not injured, unfortunatelly the suspects managed to escape with a large amount of equipment. I am so glad that Gideon is safe, once again Gideon has put his life at risk. Be safe out there guys, make sure you wear your bullet proof vests. The vehicles can always be fixed but a life cannot be replaced
Community Involvement for 2015
It was once again a great honor and privilege to be apart of a community that would like to make a difference.
Edleen CPF hosted their Christmas fair at Edleen Laerskool in Ilex way Edleen on Saturday 5 December 2015, There were so many things to do and so much to see………..
Alpha Security donated 5 Torches towards the CPF, I trust that this will make a difference, although a small donation, it will give five patrollers the ability to shine a light on crime and report it to Alpha Security for assistance.
Thank you to the Edleen CPF for hosting us and a great event
